The Lord brings comfort and encouragement to His prophet Jeremiah during a time of crisis. He “was shut up in the court of the prison” (Jer 32:2), by the rebellious king Zedekiah (Jer 24:8), who tried to stop him in proclaiming the doom of Judah “into the hand of the Chaldeans” (Jer 32:24). Often, we feel so helpless and hopeless when everything seems to pile up against us (Ps 73:2); we start thinking that we are so alone and no one cares (Ps 142:2)!
We try to look for help and still we come up empty (Prov 24:10). It is during these trying times that we must prevail in prayers for “great and mighty things,” which we don’t even know. But God knows every path that we take (Job 23:10). Because “all things work together for good to them that love God” (Rom 8:28). He is “the Great, the Mighty God” (Jer 32:18), and we can do nothing without Him (Jn 15:5). We must call upon Him because He has the power to deliver “great and mighty things” that He has promised. Nothing is beyond the ability of God (Gen 18:14)! Jeremiah was commanded to call unto the Lord and was given the promise that his prayers will be answered. Jeremiah knew that “there is nothing too hard” (Jer 32:17), for God, because His thoughts toward His children are always “thoughts of peace, and not of evil” (Jer 29:11).
You may be going through some challenging circumstances today; maybe a marriage that became a burden instead of a blessing, some plans that did not materialize, a sea of debt that you are drowning in, or even some health issues that you are facing. God knows exactly your situation and He is there for you (Ecc 6:12). But you must humbly call upon Him “in the day of trouble” (Ps 50:15); He promised to deliver you so that you can honor and glorify His name (1 Tim 1:17)! God bless you!
