The context of this parable that Jesus spoke (v. 1), paints a picture of Israel’s rejection of Him as the Messiah (Jn 10:25). The king in the story invited people to his son’s wedding (v. 2), but “they would not come” (v. 3). They were even invited a second time and were told of the feast that was prepared for them (v. 4), but “they made light of it” (v. 5), or they were indifferent and disrespected the invitation! They even took some of the servants “and slew them” (v. 6).
The king was so angry that “he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city” (v. 7). Afterwards, he told his servants to invite as many people as they shall find “to the marriage.” He was not concerned about their past, their character, or even their social standing. He just wants “whosoever will” (Rev 22:17); to come and attend the wedding celebration! When the Lord made His plan of salvation, He prepared the open “door” (Jn 10:9), and the only “way” (Jn 14:6), to all who would accept His invitation (Mt 11:28); regardless of their background. God’s plan is available to “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord” (Rom 10:13). Salvation is purely by God’s grace (Eph 2:8).
It happens when the Holy Spirit deals with the heart of lost people about their sins (Jms 2:9), and causes them to repent “toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 20:21). Sadly, most people harden their hearts and try to put God off (Heb 3:15) – they make all kinds of excuses (Lk 14:18). They know it is the right thing to do, but they want to wait until they “have a convenient season” (Acts 24:25). If God is convicting your heart to get saved, don’t delay! He also has a deadline (Heb 12:15). “Now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor 6:2). Come to Jesus while there is still time! God bless you!
