I’m so thankful that we set aside a day each year to celebrate Thanksgiving. However, it should be a daily habit and our way of life to give thanks “in every thing” (1 Thes 5:18). Sadly, many today have no sense of gratitude at all for anything they possess (2 Tim 3:2). People complain and grumble about almost everything and everyone, just like when the Israelites murmured during their wilderness wanderings (Ex 16:8). It seems that today’s society, with all its modern technologies and conveniences, people still find ways to complain! There was a time when people showed thankfulness for all the good things in life.
Now, many consider it a personal right to demand from the government; things like a job, home, and food. They don’t appreciate what they already have. God’s word teaches us to be thankful all the time (Col 3:17), and learn to “be content with such things as ye have” (Heb 13:5). If you are a child of God, then always be thankful for that “so great salvation” (Heb 2:3). Because of God’s great love for us (Jn 3:16), He “hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance” (Col 1:12). Let us not take too lightly the price that Jesus paid on the cross (1 Pet 1:19), for our redemption (Titus 2:14). As the Holy Ghost takes control of our lives (1 Cor 6:19), we will learn to trust Him for all our daily needs (Php 4:19).
We will come to understand that He is always on our side (Rom 8:31), and He promises not to fail us nor forsake us (Deut 31:6)! We will know with utmost certainty that He is able to look after us for our good and for His glory (Rom 8:28). If you are still struggling to give “thanks always for all things unto God,” then why not start by counting all His many blessings and name them one by one (Ps 103:2)! May you have a God blessed Thanksgiving!
