Paul was not trying to commend himself (v. 1), for the success of his ministry at Corinth. He claims that all his strength and “sufficiency is of God.” The genuine conversion of Corinthian believers was manifested from their “hearts, known and read of all men” (v. 2). The lost world may not be able to read or even listen to God’s word, but they should see it through the lives of every bible-believing Christians (2 Cor 5:20). The living word of God (Heb 4:12), can do more to change and impact any society than any manmade programs (Prov 16:7). Sadly, many today think that they know more than God (Prov 14:12), and they disregard the Bible as their standard for living (Ps 119:4). They have called “evil good, and good evil” (Isa 5:20).
It is like in the days of the judges when “every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Jgs 21:25). That’s called moral relativism; it means what’s morally wrong in God’s eyes is not necessarily wrong according to society (2 Tim 4:3). Their right and wrong are defined by an ever-changing culture; by either creating or re-creating a set of standards to fit their definition (Jer 5:31)! People may ignore and discredit the Bible, but it will still “endureth for ever” (1 Pet 1:25), and it shall not return to God “void” (Isa 55:11).
Lost people may reject it and ridicule those who use it as a pattern for their lives. But it “shall judge them in the last day” (Jn 12:48)! They have added to and subtracted from God’s word (Rev 22:18). They have invented many religions (Col 2:8), many gods (1 Cor 8:5), and different gospels (Gal 1:9), to make themselves feel better. However, our world is still in a big mess because many have neglected the only plan of salvation (1 Pet 1:19), and the Only way to Heaven (Jn 14:6). God’s grace is sufficient and Jesus is all we need! God bless you!
