Our Lord Jesus saved us so that we can serve Him “with gladness” (Ps 100:2). Bible-believing Christians ought to be thankful people because of the victory that Christ gave us (v. 57)! Paul encourages us to be “always abounding in the work of the Lord.” Jesus said to “occupy” (Lk 19:13), or to make the most of our gifts and talents (1 Pet 4:10), while we wait for that “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), of His second coming (Rev 1:7). If our hope in Christ will not be followed by the resurrection; if everything that we have to look forward to when we die is the grave; then we shall be “most miserable” (v. 19).
But we thank God that Christ indeed has “risen from the dead” (v. 20)! There is now hope that is “both sure and stedfast” (Heb 6:19), for “all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:26), to be one day “risen with Him” (Col 2:12). Paul tells us “forasmuch as ye know” that our work for the Master matters. There is no work, no sacrifice, no struggles, that we do shall go unnoticed (2 Cor 5:10). Christians, keep on serving, keep on praying, keep on studying God’s word, keep on soul-winning, and keep on living for Jesus!
The road ahead may be hard, the burdens we carry are heavy, and the work may seem unrewarding or no one may even care. But if we do it all for His glory and honor (1 Cor 10:31), then it’s “not in vain in the Lord.” It is never a waste of time; because the Lord is watching it all (Prov 15:3), He knows it all (Heb 4:13), and one day, He shall reward it all (Rev 22:12)! He knows the motives and intents of our hearts, and one day He will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” It will be worth it all! God bless you!
