Jesus taught a great multitude “by the sea on the land” (v. 1), “many things by parables” (v. 2). Then, around the early evening time (v. 35), He told them to pass over unto the other side. As they were traveling, “there arose a great storm of wind” (v. 37), but it did not bother the Lord, as “He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow” (v. 38). That’s because He is in charge; He controls and sets limits in everything (Isa 45:7).
He is the One Who “commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind” (Ps 107:25)! We may not always understand it (Isa 55:8), but when the storms of life rage around us, a closer examination would reveal God’s hand upon it. It came because He sent it for a specific reason (Job 2:3). Jesus placed His disciples in this storm to teach them a great lesson. They were so afraid that they thought He doesn’t care if they perished (v. 38). After all the great miracles they have witnessed and seeing the Lord’s power over demons (Lk 8:32), and diseases (Mt 9:35), they were still “so fearful,” and “have no faith.” God has the same purpose for all the storms that He places in our lives (Rom 8:28).
He allows His children to experience the hard places in life so we can totally depend on Him (Prov 3:5)! How can we possibly know what God can do unless we find ourselves in a place where He had to do it? Jesus already knows what’s beyond the storm of our lives. He also knows what we will be facing down the road (Isa 46:10), and how He will use and bless us along the way (Rom 9:21). Whatever you may be facing today, rest assured that Jesus knows all about it, and He has everything under control. Because He no longer sleeps (Ps 121:3), and He promised to keep us safe through the storms of life! God bless you!
