Just as children exhibit some of the distinguishing characteristics of their parents, those who are born into the family of God (Jn 3:3), shall also have certain characteristics that demonstrate us as “a peculiar people” (1 Pet 2:9). It means that we are God’s priceless possession of rare beauty! Our Lord Jesus paid a high price to purchase us (1 Cor 6:20), with His “precious blood” (1 Pet 1:19). Therefore, we need to glorify Him by presenting our “bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God” (Rom 12:1). When we were born in this world, we have been given birth certificates to prove our identity.
However, when a person is born spiritually (1 Pet 1:23), God does not generate any paperwork to prove its evidence. There is only His supernatural work “by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5). It is not about us feeling saved. Otherwise, salvation would no longer be by God’s grace “through faith” (Eph 2:8). “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor 5:7). We become new creatures in Christ; “old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Cor 5:17).
The “fruit of the Spirit” (Gal 5:22), becomes evident in our lives. Since God loves His children (1 Jn 3:16), He places that supernatural love within our lives (v. 1), that causes us to show love, compassion, and concern for other believers in Christ (1 Jn 4:20). The world will know that we are followers of Jesus, if we “have love one to another” (Jn 13:35)! Furthermore, our lives will now have a “hunger and thirst after righteousness” (Mt 5:6). By walking in humble obedience to “keep His commandments.” Obviously, none of us will be able to follow His word perfectly (Rom 7:23). In spite of the daily spiritual warfare that we face (Gal 5:17), there will always be a desire to live for God (Ps 37:4), which never existed before salvation! God bless you!
