God commanded Jeremiah to purchase a field from his uncle (v. 7), right after he was thrown into prison (v. 8). This transaction may have caused some serious doubts in Jeremiah’s heart, and others may have thought that he was crazy. Because he was prophesying to his people that their nation was about to be destroyed and taken away captive to Babylon. Yet, God tells him to buy a piece of property! Regardless, Jeremiah obeyed (v. 12). He would probably never see what this property would be used for. But he knew that the Lord knows exactly what He was doing and that His “counsel shall stand“ (Isa 46:10). Therefore, Jeremiah continued to praise the Great and Mighty God (v. 18)! There are times that we undergo some circumstances in life that leave us perplexed (2 Cor 4:8). We may not understand why God calls home some of His faithful servants early in life (Ps 116:15).
We may not understand why some people have the medical problems they have (2 Cor 12:9). We may not understand why some folks are going through some really tough times (Prov 24:16). There are so many things in life that we may never fully understand. But if we focus on those things, then we may experience some moments of anxieties and pain (Ps 73:16). We must learn to trust in the Lord (Prov 3:5), and ask Him to give us wisdom (Jms 1:5), that we may know His testimonies (Ps 119:125).
We must move forward and go past the things that we cannot comprehend (Jn 13:7), so we can seek God’s “face continually” (1 Chr 16:11), Who is in charge of everything (Prov 19:21). Let’s not worry about what others may think of our actions as we follow Him. We can never fully understand God’s ways (Isa 55:8). His will and purpose may not always make sense. Nevertheless, our duty is to obey Him (Jn 14:15)! God bless you!
