Although Ruth was a Moabite (Deut 23:3), she became a widow of a man from Israel (Ruth 1:5). She followed her mother-in-law, Naomi, back into the land of Judah where the famine had ended. They were both broke, so she had to glean after the harvesters in the barley field just to get something to eat (v. 7). Ruth found favor in the field’s owner, Boaz, who provided their daily food (v. 13). He wanted her to get as much from his field so that she would not have to glean anywhere else! God also promised to supply all the needs of His children (Php 4:19).
He has “blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Eph 1:3). By giving us “sufficiency in all things” (2 Cor 9:8). Ruth told Naomi that the blessings from the field would continue until the end of the harvest (v. 21). God will not stop His provisions until we leave this world; then He will show us “the exceeding riches of His grace” (Eph 2:7), in Heaven! As Ruth went back to the city, many saw the amount of barley that she was carrying, and they knew that she got those from the field of Boaz.
It seems that Boaz wants to make a statement that he was going to be a blessing in Ruth’s life! We need to understand that God’s blessings in our lives (Jms 1:17), are designed to show this lost world that our “God is faithful” (1 Cor 1:9). He gives us grace for living. All the “benefits” (Ps 103:2), that we receive from Him are meant to create a hunger and thirst so that unsaved people can “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps 34:8). When we express God’s real blessings in our lives, the world will surely be affected by His work in us! God bless you!
